Body Recomposition — The Naked Wellness Company
The Naked Wellness Co. No. 018
Body
Recomposition

Losing fat and building muscle at the same time. It's real, it's possible, and it's slower than either approach done in isolation — but for the right person, it's the smart play.

Who it works for
Recomp isn't for
everyone. Know your spot.
1
Beginners
New to training. High muscle-building potential. Body responds strongly to any stimulus.
Best results
2
Returning lifters
Took a long break. Muscle memory accelerates recomposition vs true beginners.
Strong results
3
Trained, higher body fat
More stored fat means more fuel available for muscle-building even in a deficit.
Works well
4
Advanced, lean trainees
Already near genetic potential. Recomp is extremely slow at this stage.
Limited gains
Recomp vs cutting and bulking
Two approaches.
Different trade-offs.
Cut / Bulk Phases
cut → bulk → cut
Faster progress
Better for advanced lifters. Requires managing two distinct phases.
Body Recomposition
muscle up · fat down
Slower, steady
Both changes happen simultaneously. Scale may barely move.
How to do it
Three non-negotiables
for recomp.
01
Eat at or near maintenance
A small deficit (100–200 kcal) or maintenance calories. Enough fuel to build muscle, small enough to prompt fat burning.
02
High protein — always
2g+ per kg of bodyweight. Protein is the direct input for muscle protein synthesis. Without it, recomp stalls.
03
Progressive resistance training
The training signal is essential. Without progressive overload, there's no reason for the body to build muscle. The whole game is here.
Common Traps
Where recomp
falls apart.
×
Expecting cut-speed fat loss
Recomp is slow. The scale barely moves. That's not failure — that's how it's supposed to look.
×
Undereating protein
At maintenance calories with low protein, you're just maintaining. The muscle-building half of recomp disappears.
×
Giving up after 4 weeks because "nothing's happening"
Recomp shows up in photos and measurements before the scale. Measure everything except patience.
The Naked Truth

It's slower than you want and faster than doing nothing. If the scale not moving is making you quit a process that's actually working — that's the problem to fix.

Take monthly photos. Measure your waist. Track your lifts. That's where recomp shows up.
